Posted 05 February 2018 - 02:01 PM

I have a great idea for a smartphone app, but have no programming experience. To get started, why programming language should I begin with? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you looking for a specific platform? Typically java for Android and swift for iOs.

You could use Xamarin to write once and deploy into different platforms.

Bear in mind that there is a long and arduous road between "intro to programming" and your "great idea".

Well the app is moreso supplementary than the main component. It would basically be a simple online calculator, but with many uses for the healthcare industry if that changes anything.

Without any programming experience it will be difficult and you can expect many months of study and hard work.

Does it have to be an store app?
A website would probably easier to createand also you don't need to pay for licences on the Windows and Apple store.

If you can learn fast, then grab as many books as you can on C# and go from there. I've never heard of anyone who was successful by not trying. Chances are, you'll quit after the realisation that there is a lot of groundwork to cover during your inexperienced voyage into the unknown.

I use Xamarin for Android w/ C# and it's very beginner friendly compared to android studio in my experience. It's also fully native and you can do apps in C# instead of Java.

I know TI Basic, C++, VC++ and C# ... I like C# the best because once you know it, you can use it to develop fairly low level apps with decent performance and not get caught up in syntax.

If I were you I would start with C#. :bananaman:

As many advise you here, start with C #. But be ready to read a lot. It will also not be difficult to start with Java, but it depends on your goals ... Perhaps with the development of programming skills, your idea will not seem so good anymore. Refer to this software development team ftp://url.nope/ for advice and they will help you to decide.
