Question for the SEO gurus

Posted 27 February 2018 - 09:55 AM

I want to know something specific about internal linking. Ive looked online and whilst there are many theories on what internal linking should be thy are covering the exact topic that im looking for.

Say i have a home page right and it contains brief descriptions on service dogs, cats, peaches .

Then i have linked in my nav internal pages focusing on service dogs2 , cats2 ,peaches2.

So lets say i want my home page to rank better for topic "dogs".

On dogs2 should i make a link to a containing the anchor-text keyword "dogs" back to the home page.

I realise there probably isnt going to be solid answer for this but heck its worth a shot.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Seems excessive and unneeded.

Typically the best route for getting better visibility with 'dogs' is to have more relevant and fresh content about dogs.

You're not going to make a dent with a single internal link back to your home page, than you will with multiple external links. Honestly, I won't even worry about SEO value for a target keyword with internal links. Instead I would focus keywords within content & external links.

Yea what i am realising now is there may be some kind of algorithmic bonus for using internal links properly but we dont know. However internal links are there to serve a user right / So if i have my dogs page pointing to cats pages withing my website instead of other relevant dog type pages. That user is probably going to bounce of my site. And we do know that bounce rates effect rankings

Thing about SEO is it's just trying to game a system that actively objects to being gamed. modi's right: be the thing that they're trying to reward and let the search engines optimize themselves. Your time is a limited resource. Do you want to use it making your site better and easier to use for people... or for machines?

Content first approach over gaming algorithms. A novel idea jon! You should write a book on it! :D
