Download Speed - Is it ok?

Posted 16 August 2018 - 10:45 AM

I am downloading approximately 100 kB/s. Is it fast?
Internet service provider says it is up to 10 ??but what??
Is it okay for LTE/comparable to the wired connection?

Depends on what you are doing with it and where you are.

If you are talking about wi-fi/wired connection ideally no, that is not good speed. When they say 10 they are typically saying "Megabits". Now of course the speed you get on a download will depend on many things... your network, your ISP, the Internet and how far you are from the server the file is located and their network. So be sure to take all that into account and always know you will probably never reach the advertised "theoretical" limit most ISPs tell you.

I am on a fairly standard plan of 150 megabits per second and my average download speed of a file will be on the order of a few megaBYTES per second.

Now mobile is a bit slower but LTE is still, on average globally, around 12.6 megabits per second. So you should be getting more than 100 kB/s on average for downloading things. When the average website page is pushing 3MB, that is going to result in a page taking a few seconds on a mobile device.

Either way, 100 kB/s is a bit slow
