I have real trouble understanding a boss who doesn't want their team to have opinions. I mean, you've hired these people because they're smart and well-informed, right? Why not take advantage of that?

Ooh boy have I got stories for you. Which I've already told you over beers :)

Also probably similar logic that causes us to interview people like expert computer scientists creating novel algorithms to have them add buttons to apps.

Went to NDK this weekend (an anime convention, like ComiCon); spent most of my time running around, and severely over-tipping (I realized the last day that the restaurant bills were adding 18% gratuity by default and then asking for further tip). Slept for >12 hours last night and think I am coming down with ConCough. Should be a fun week or two getting over that. Back to work tomorrow...

Why were they adding 18% by default? Were you part of a party of people? They should only add a tip like that if they had to serve a group of people. Typically more than 8 in most restaurants that I have seen.

I tip well after a lengthy discussion on the subject with some friends.

Back at work, though I still want more days off. The previous shipping person is gone now, which places his issues on me with little understanding how it all works OR the ability to make it better. I can't believe the amount of push back I have received in an attempt to do a redesign in-place using a myriad of possible patterns.

This week needs to be over quickly so I can continue me relaxations.

I did manage to get the site up on AWS, I still need to connect the DB, but that isn't a big deal at this point.

After looking at approximately 8,976,374 houses, I think we found one we want to buy. It's at the absolute upper threshold of our budget, but it's been on the market for several months so we're going to low-ball an offer and see if they'll meet us halfway. I'm incredibly nervous about it though. I was all in when we started this search, but now that we're looking at actually bidding on something, it's terrifying and I'm second guessing the entire decision to pursue home ownership.

Ah, what's the worst that can happen?

Second thought, don't answer that...

Granted we are renting because we have plans to move out of state in a few years, but this is how my girlfriend was/is with the decisions we are making. The most expensive place she has ever rented was $400 and she struggled with that so when we were looking with an upper limit of $1500 a month she found it particularly anxiety inducing.

However, you have to look at it like this. Can you see yourself spending a particularly lengthy amount of time there? Does it fit your needs for now? and your proposed future? If the answer to any of the above is anything less than "probably" then it's not a good fit. Especially with buying, because you are there for approximately the duration of the mortgage.

Got a C, the lowest score in the class on my homework. Off to a good start, I see. :(

Was it the same homework that you weren’t allowed to turn in? If so, I’d say that was good.

The house is immaculate. I can see us retiring there and just being your run of the mill old people sitting on the front porch. I suppose it should be noted that once into a house, I have zero intention of moving again, ever. It's a three bedroom brick ranch with a finished basement and the cleanest garage I have ever seen in my life. There's room enough to finish raising the kids there, then, when we're older, it's all on one level and it comes with one of those electric chair lifts on the stairs to get in and out of the basement (where the garage is located) without having to climb stairs and break a hip. This chair will come in handy in the meantime, I think, as a means of moving groceries from the car to the kitchen without having to run up and down the stairs seven times - just put a basket on the seat and load it up. It has a new roof, new windows, a new furnace, new central air unit, all new appliances in the kitchen. It's a gorgeous place. It's just a big step and a big change and that makes me nauseous. :puke:

It might be helpful to spend a day over the weekend going through the rules of exponents and logarithms, as well as L'Hospital's rule. That should likely be the majority of the algebra skills you need for class. :)
