Any of you using Project Jupyter ?

Posted 30 October 2018 - 11:45 AM

http://jupyter.org/

I just was made aware this was a thing about five minutes ago. Supports R, C++, python, and scheme. Output to a various things like LaTeX.. etc Has 'notebooks' to share and can be all sorts of fancy web based.

Anyone using it? Anything above and beyond a throw away web ide?

It's pretty solid. A lot of science/analysis oriented people swear by it. I dislike it solely for the reason that it encourages people to share notebooks instead of re-usable pieces of software, but overall it's a popular tool.

It's a popular tool for talks and sharing ideas. I haven't seen a real need for it myself, but as xclite says it has a lot of love in the science and data community.

My team has messed with it a bit for running Hive queries against an Azure HDInsight cluster - purely experimental, nothing "production". In that context, it's handy for data Q&A but the cost of the HDInsight cluster made for a pretty poor ROI for our potential use cases.

I have been using it off an on for a couple of years now. It is great for graphing performance data of various hardware components (which is why I use it off and on - I don't get new hardware to look at super frequently).

This is relevant. I've used it, though I hardly do any data related stuff these days.
