(another "game" project) seeking senior programmer

Posted 14 November 2018 - 11:22 AM

Actually yes this is a computer game project. Hello. I am de wize1. ;)

I am seeking a senior programmer for a MUD-like RPG (it's single player). The game design is finished. I am also programmer, but only novice skill. Seeking consultance on complex systems. I will be doing the labor. Can discuss business proposition.

For the brave only! I cannot gaurantee when the game is done it will even sell. Game sales are not reliable and also depend on the quality of the game.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

What's your time frame?
What's the system?
What's the programming language?
Do you have milestones?
Is this 'for pay'?

Your thread has been moved to our Volunteer Jobs and Collaborative Teambuilding forum. Please remember that threads seeking volunteer help, a group to learn together, or a group to work on a hobbyist project do not belong in the general help forums or our paid jobs forum.
The paid jobs forum is strictly for jobs for which you intend to pay some definite sum in a negotiable currency. Shares in future profits, in-game currencies, and promises of possible employment do not qualify.

What's your time frame?

I put anywhere from 4-10 hours a day on this game.

What's the system?

The system is a MUD-like. The entire game is experienced through a UI using keyword commands like "look" and "take".

What's the programming language?

I am making the game in the Godot Game Engine. The game engine uses GDscript, which is a dynamic scripting language akin to python.

Do you have milestones?

Yes. Specifically: Save/load, traveling, combat, UI, character creation, mapping, interaction & commands & events, time system, inventory. Not in that order, though. Input and interaction comes first. Then character creation and player referencing.

Is this 'for pay'?

No pay. :( UNLESS I successfully market the game when it's completed. The co-developer will receive revenue share in that instance.
I know this game will be successful and popular, but I cannot gaurantee any specific number.

Let me rephrase for those looking.

Time frame - when do you expect this to be done.
System.. is this a windows game? android? ios? Web based?

The 'donated time' more or less opts me out, but maybe others would be interested in what you have to say.

I can not say. I do not have enough experience to predict an estimated time of completion.

I would like for the game to be web-based. However, networking is beyond my skill level. So, I am building a single-player prototype which hopefully later can be refined into a web-based true MUD.

Why would networking be needed in a single player web game?

You have a fair point. It wouldn't be necessary.

To be frank, to entice a senior programmer you will need to improve your description and details. Changing the details, and providing conflicting information, in particular, will not be encouraging.

The more time you spend planning, outlining, detailing and presenting your case the more time someone might be willing to consider investing their time and energy in you. Watch some episodes of 'Dragons' Den'.

Nah. It's a MUD. Doesn't require much explanation. I think I'll just develop my skill until I can do it alone. That way it would save me this process of trying to find a mentor. Especially for free. Not many people of great skill offer it freely.

I would disagree. You have a generation that most likely never played them.. and a generation that may have played them, but 30+ years ago.

Explanation is never a bad thing.

Two words

Arakion

and

Kickstarter

https://www.kickstar...taylors-arakion

play the video see the work this guy has put into his idea, see the amount raised for the game $48,000 approx

now do you have anything at all in place like this, ie have you designed or paid to have designed professional graphics, can you explain your idea clearly in a video, do you have a demo mocked up, do you have a promotional website in place, if yes then you can raise some money to actually pay someone to develop your idea.

If no, then it is hard to take you seriously as you are not really taking yourself seriously, invest in a graphic designer or design your own graphics if you have that ability, build a demo, remember this can be quite short 15 seconds of gameplay is enough, build or have a promotional website built for you, you can work on your game while you wait for the kickstarter to kick in set a reasonable target like this guy did say $25-30,000, you may get more pledged as he did.
