Netbeans and Git. Can't push to github

Posted 17 January 2019 - 07:49 AM

Hi all,

I screwed up a repository in Netbeans somehow, and now I can't push to a remote repository on Github.

Here's the error message I get:
https://jeffindenver...eatGrinder.git: error occurred during unpacking on the remote end: index-pack abnormal exit

And then:

==[IDE]== Jan 16, 2019 1:38:55 PM Committing... finished.
==[IDE]== Jan 16, 2019 1:39:34 PM Pushing - NetBeansProjects
git branch
git remote -v
setting up remote: origin
git submodule status
command could not start: Git repository does not exist at C:\Users\fakeUserName\Documents\NetBeansProjects\ServiceChannelReport\SCReport
git push https://jeffindenver...MeatGrinder.git refs/heads/master:refs/heads/master
==[IDE]== Jan 16, 2019 1:40:22 PM Pushing - NetBeansProjects finished.

Last, here's the git config in case that's relevant.
[pack]
buildbitmaps = false
[core]
symlinks = false
repositoryformatversion = 0
filemode = false
logallrefupdates = true
bare = false
[remote "origin"]
url = https://jeffindenver...MeatGrinder.git
fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*

So somewhere Nebeans is associating the MeatGrinder (stupid name, yes) project with SCReport. The Git repository browser shows only NetBeansProjects[master].

I've spent a few hours over a couple days trying to find a fix. If anyone has suggestions or insight, I'd love to hear it.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

It looks like you may have accidentally deleted the hidden ".git" directory under "C:\Users\fakeUserName\Documents\NetBeansProjects\ServiceChannelReport\SCReport".

If you don't have any local changes that you care about, simple reclone from BitbucketGithub. If you do have local changes, it gets more complicated.

Thanks Skydiver. Local changes are all I have because I've never successfully pushed to github.

I've been planning to switch to IntelliJ, so maybe if I import the project there and start over that would do the trick.

If you have local changes, tree copy your current SCReport directory over into a backup directory, then clone from GitHub. When you run git remote -v, it should now list "origin" as pointing to GitHub. Next tree copy files from the backup directory into your local working directory. git diff should show you what has changed. You'll now be ready to do a git commit and later git push.
