Are you overclocking at all? I've seen the sound cut out on MSI boards (well, one board ;) ) when the FSB is cranked a little too high.

Which mainboard do you have?

http://driverscollec...H=VT1617&By=VIA
  • Install Drivers
  • Shut down
  • Plug in speakers
  • Power on
  • Enjoy the musics!

If that doesn't work, check your BIOS; 99% of the time, on board sound cards can be disabled.

well if none of that works and you really need sound, sound cards are very cheap.

I ALREADY ENABLED IT IN BIOS.... IT DOESENT WORK.

ILL TRY THE FSB THING WHEN I GET HOME..... THANKS.

I CANT PUT THE CARD IN ANOTHER COMPUTER.... ITS ALL BUILT INTO THE MOTHER BOARD.

I DONT KNOW WHERE 2 GET THE LATEST DRIVER FROM....... :P

THE BOARD I HAVE IS THE msi THAT NEEDS VT1617 (thats all i know at the moment because my dad put it together.... and im not at home yet...sorry.)

(MorphiusFaydal) I TRIED THIS.... I DONT KNOW WHY BUT IT DOES NOT WORK "music comes on for about 1min and goes off again, this is after getting the popup of 'ADD NEW HARDWARE' and clicking on untill it installs".

I had problems on VIA chipsets, when the PCI Latency timer was set too low in the BIOS. I think 32 is the default setting, and it should work with it just fine, so try to check if yours is different.

That's what the link I posted is; Windows drivers for the VIA vt1617 audio chipset.

If you're installing these, and then the chip dies after a minute of playing, I would say check the PCI timer like 1lacca said, then if that doesn't work, try and find a new sound card.

http://www.newegg.co.......34&name=PCI <-- Complete listing a of PCI sound cards at NewEgg.com... My personal favourite website for computer hardware. On a personal note, I would lean towards a Creative Labs Sound Blaster card, but if you don't want to spend the $30, then any of the cheaper cards should work. If you check around your local tech stores (Best Buy and Circuit City don't really count - try and find a CompUSA, Fry's Electronics, or some small local dealer) and you may find a better price than what's posted online.

Well i wouldn't be surprised if you went onto newegg.com and got one for under $10, but i would just go between $10-$20 just to be a little safer. Unless you need a great little music studio for no reason besides listening in you r house, any card will really do. make sure you have an open PCI slot before you buy any though.
$10 Sound Card
Its 10 + shipping, and for the price i bet it beats out any other card you could find.
