Script to Check What URL is Open and Close if open for X amount of Tim

Posted 12 March 2019 - 01:59 PM

Hi,

im looking to create a scrip that probably will work with a scheduled task on a Windows PC, where if a user navigates to a specific web URL in Internet Explorer. Use Google.co.uk as an example.

Once the page is open in IE and Google.co.uk is open, i need something to close the webpage after they have been on the page for 1 minute for example.

Is this something that could be made?

Not sure where to start, so hoping soeone here could give advice and help :)

Thanks!

Do you REALLY need the website open, or can you just bind to the socket?

The question is, what is your intent? I can see a use case for this, but what is yours?

If this is windows 7 or Especially windows 10, PowerShell might be one option for you. It's pretty easy to write scripts. Here would be two resources to get you started then you might have to do a bit of digging.

Extract monitor web content with powershell
https://foxdeploy.co...ith-powershell/

Killing tasks with powershell
https://social.techn...sing-powershell

Get started and then post some attempt; I'll assist from there. Otherwise be more specific with your question please.

Found this aswell, search "web monitoring with powershell" and "close a webpage with powershell"

Sorry for the late reply, so basically we have an in house website and the problem we have is when users open the website and enter details into it they are required to close that Web Page down.... but they dont and this is causing issues for us.

We are not able to modify the web page its self, so the only way we can go round this is to have something look at the URL's and once that URL has been opened they have 1 minute for exmaple then the page will close down, or go to another web site URL.

Its a matter of security compliance, thats why I am trying to implement this sort of thing.

Hope that helps?

Thanks
