HELP w/ creating Flowcharts.Terminals/input/output/processing/decision

Posted 13 March 2019 - 01:36 PM

[code] hello, so i recently wanted to get in the habit of making up flowcharts and learning about them. i came up on the info (below) from a random site and cannot understand it. i believe at first, it is asking for a set of instructions so would i start the flowchart off with creating a rectangle(processing) ? since it first asks for instructions or is that only valid when dealing with numbers ?. im a bit confused on how to start and finish this flowchart.

"Write one flow chart that contains instructions to read words from the user until your (the flow chart writer's) last name is entered, once your (the flow chart writer's) last name is input by the user the flow chart should output to the user: “the correct name was input.” If another word was given ask the user for another word.

After your (the flow chart writer's) last name was input, the instructions should read letters from the user until a letter in your first name was entered. Any of the letters from your first name would cause an output of "success!" and the program will terminate. Any other letters will result in asking the user for another letter.

All of these instructions must be represented in a single flow chart."

lets say the users name is : Mario Smith

attached a photo but i know its totally wrong.

It helps to have the basics down.

Oval - start/end
Rectangle - a step
Diamond - decision
Arrows directional of flow.

Seems like a step.

read words from the user

Seems like a decision for a loop

until your (the flow chart writer's) last name is entered

Seems like a step.

should output to the user: “the correct name was input.”

Seems like similar repetition of the steps and decisions from above.

i know the oval is my starting point for the flowchart but i do not know where to go from there. it seems i cannot use a rectangle bc thats usually "used for arithmetic and data manipulation operations".
my next guess would be using a parallelagram(input/output) ?

Then yes... if you are getting input use the parallelogram.
