Should I go for an internship of focus on side projects?

Posted 27 April 2019 - 11:05 AM

I am currently a sophomore majoring in computer science, and I have gotten some offers for IT internships; however, they are not really what I want to pursue. Should I just spend my summer doing an internship that won't be really substantial, or should I focus this summer on developing my skills, completing side projects, etc, so that by next summer I am a stronger candidate for the "sacred" senior summer internship?

Permute and do both. All things being equal - getting an internship provides benefits outside of the specific content.

Please elaborate.

What is substantial in your eyes? Work is work, and the title is a title. Nothing precludes you from continuing to develop skill anyway; how do you think people do it while working?

Im doing a course internship right now and outside of programming it has given me great insights in time management, planning, expectations of projects. Working with a client etc. I think its a great experience so far and think you should try it out imo.
Like modi said do both :P
