@DarenR- That's pretty rough. I'm sorry to hear about your son. That is awesome that he has been working with NASA, though!

Is that at Arizona State? They have a whole building there dedicated to working with NASA on their previous rovers. Turns out our climate and terrain is good for something.

Ah, previous home of a lot of the shuttle manufacturing I believe, and also the space camp I think? I'm sure that NASA has a big presence there as well.

It's always nice to be able to go outside in lovely Phoenix and see the rosy-faced lovebirds from Africa sitting in our pine trees.

I think someone would notice if I busted out my Benelli Super Black Eagle 2 in the middle of the day. Or my Remington 1100. Or even the Glock 19, which would be more of a challenge. Besides, they aren't going anywhere, there are multiple flocks around the city. Apparently we're the only place that people have released them and they've managed to breed and thrive. Because of their coloration I thought they were tropical, like the coconut, but apparently they're from the Namib desert. The flocks can be amazingly loud, they're pretty social and get into some very spirited conversations.

Another downside of every day looking like every other day is not being aware of when the military is planning on flying several hundred million dollars of hardware over my house to "support healthcare workers" until after I've armed myself and ran outside, but before I've put pants on. Turns out F-35s are loud.

Our final exam is open from tomorrow at 9 AM through 11:59 PM on Tuesday. I honestly can't wait for final grades to be submitted for this class. I'm tired of the emails and Piazza posts along the lines of: "Hey mom, hey mom, hey mom. Are grades posted yet? I know you said that you hadn't graded requizzes for standard x yet, but my requiz grade for standard x yet isn't in Canvas. Why is that? Also, when are solutions going to be posted? And I know that migrating grades from Gradescope to Canvas isn't done done yet, but why are my grades for these assignments not on Canvas? And these ones are wrong. Hey mom. Hey mom. Hey mom."

We have ~330 students in the class. And FFS- I'm not even responsible for a lot of this and have made that abundantly clear. It is taking a lot of effort not to snap at certain students.

I mentioned to my advisor (who is also one of the course instructors this semester) that I don't want to work with this class again in the fall. This class has a heavy TA workload anyways, and the students rioted last fall. He said that he would ask about whether I could TA a theory class with a lighter workload.

It was my wife's gun, because there's nothing more American than immigrating to the US and buying a gun while on a work visa. I used to have a nice Springfield XDM .40 compact but it got stolen. My wife needs something smaller though, when she shoots the 9mm it will constantly jam because she lacks the wrist strength. A .380 is better for her.

I have, once again, saved the state by building a new site for them in under 24 hours... Medal here I come...

Update: I am officially receiving a bonus on my next check - I still do not know its value but the funds were personally allocated by the governor... so that is kinda cool.

Best of luck with that.

I've been just grinding Animal Crossing, finally got 5 stars. Only half the island is really developed, but it's coming along. Of course I go and watch videos of other islands online and I feel like my island is crap in comparison. :( rip.

Today is the first dojo session for our cloud conversion, so that is super exciting. :D I'm gonna be well on my way to being an architect in no time!
