So, been a bit, but I have some updates.

Finger is healing and so far it is doing well enough where I haven't needed surgery to remove more of it. Life has been hectic with interviews and rejections and me going to a dark depression. But, I got an official offer with a major company this morning that will be a great learning experience and a minimal pay cut short term and better money long term. I'll be starting off doing maintenance for the most complex system I've ever dealt with, more on that later; from there I will be adding new features and building new services, but I should be able to actually get an architect position within a year. This is the same company I've been trying to secure a role with for over a year and it just never came to be. Pending the paperwork gets processed quickly enough, I'll be starting the 23rd.

So, I've dealt with micro services and architected them as well, but, the largest I had designed was around 10 services, the system I will be working on currently has 50 properly designed micro services. Completely new to me, and also why I look forward to being on maintenance initially. Learning how all of this works and works well will be great to me and will also build on my architectural knowledge. I'm happy to have secured the new position and am thrilled at what I will be working on and what the future holds at the new company.

After a lot of no's from companies that I may or may not have wanted to work at and some of them on things that I really wouldn't have wanted to do, as well as others that I thought would have been great opportunities and projects that sounded good, my mental health was not good, my sanity was really wavering, and even being able to fake confidence was really beginning to get hard. A lot of weight was lifted off my shoulders. So for those of you that I'm not connected with in other ways and cared, there is your update.

For the love of Peter.. Dealing with a "networking/ops" person who doesn't feel the urge to respond to emails in a timely fashion, accept meeting requests/reminders, or makes any sort of committal response when they DO respond.

I know we are all busy, but goodness gracious get your shit together in the most basic form of perfunctory communication.

F'n a... I may punt the rest of my day to go look into Azure Text Analytics.

I bought a homeless guy lunch and felt good about myself until I went out to give it to him and he was gone, so I gave it to another homeless guy. Now I feel kinda bad for the first one.

I start my art class tomorrow and I'm so excited. The supplied I ordered because I didn't think I had them came in, only for me to realize that I already basically had all the stuff except the pens when I went to pack my art bag. lel.

I'm hesitant after working downtown where most of them are just running scams.

I had one that I took to subway for food, one sandwich was $19! He tried to explain that it would be lunch and dinner... I can feed a family of three for $20, that's 5 sandwiches!!!! After that I refused anymore. Take me once and the next time it's my fault.

However, when I was stationed in Texas, gave a guy a slice and before I could turn around it was gone. We offered him the rest of the pizza and he thanked us and declined any more. That guy was actually in need.

In other news, I'm playing with AutoFac and some core services with some MQ tossed in. I have a lot more studying to do, but I also have a week to get comfortable. This weekend will be a combo of studying and spending time with the kid and rest of the family. Had some realizations from my time off, chief among them, the company didn't care that I was killing myself, the injury proved that. So while I do care about work and the company and need to get in my best mental state, I need to spend time with the people that actually give a fuck rather than the ones that toss me when I lose a step. Also noticed where friends stood. To be at a low point not knowing where or how things were going to get covered and have people know it and still ask for help from me, vs my church family that was asking what they could do to help us. Big difference!

I remember one guy I worked with, I was in his car one day and he asked if I minded a quick stop at Dunkin' Donuts. Of course not, I says, so he pulls up to the drive-through and asks for eight $5 gift cards.
Turns out, he was pretty committed to helping the poor, and there were a fair few poor folks in his city to help, so he figured if someone was hungry, one of those cards would put something in their belly to keep them going for a little while, so he made sure he always had a supply on hand.

An interesting cat altogether, he was.

Yeah, if they ask for money, I walk away. If they ask for food, I will try to do something. Had more incidents than anybody else so far this weekend. booo

Another dev on the team thought it was pretty smart that I built a quick 40 line app to clean up query formatting while I checked 600 queries.

It would, and I quote, "never have occurred to me [him] to do that".

I made this face and turned around.. remembering he's on a lot of small requests and maintenance... and most likely won't do more than that; ever.

Spoiler
