How do eCommerce sites query similar items using strings?

Posted 24 July 2019 - 12:54 AM

For eCommerce sites like Amazon, how does the site query the same item with different string configurations. For example, entering the following string queries brings the same results.

iPhone X = iPhone 10 = IPHONE X = Apple iPhone X = Apple's iPhone 10 = iPhone ten = Apple iPhone ten

Does the site use algorithms like the levenshtein algorithm on the backend? Do they simply use LIKE sql queries on the backend?

I would appreciate any insight into this.

no.

I stab a guess at that they're using elasticsearch.
