Bsic video or tutorial on the commands in WPF with MVVM

Posted 25 July 2019 - 05:33 AM

Hi

Does anyone know where I can get a really good basic video or tutorial on how to use commands in WPF with the MVVM structure please? I've been scouring the internet and the videos or tutorials that come up are usually part of a set of videos so the code is all partially setup and I get lost.

I want to learn the basic implementation of CUSTOM commands in WPF using the MVVM structure. I am looking for a tutorial that starts with a new project and builds from there.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Have you already browsed MVA and Udemy? Have a PluralSight subscription?

I've had a look at these but have no idea as to which one is the best? Any recommendations? I particularly prefer courses where you can choose a module you wish to learn and that module does not depend on a previous module. What I mean is sometimes one needs to have done module B in order to do module C as the code for Mod C is an extension of Mod B.

These kind of courses are not my preferred ones.

Thanks.

Programming is building blocks, so everything builds on something previous. You cant learn about arrays until you have learned what a variable is. What are you actually trying to learn about? Keep in mind skipping thru topics means you don't understand what you think you do later on.

I've always been partial to PluralSight. There's quite a bit of content around WPF, from beginner through advanced levels. That being said, like astonecipher brought up, programming absolutely is building blocks and context - I'd recommend working through an entire course, rather than cherry-picking modules from the middle. Even if you already know some of what is covered, you'll likely learn new contextual information that relates it to what you're trying to learn.

I do get it that programming is a progression through building blocks. I've done quite a bit on the basics with other courses and now am looking to sharpen my knowledge on specific topics I need for my application. But yes, if I need to go back and revisit something then so be it.

Thanks.

Then very likely, a video tutorial is not what you are looking for. What you need is something that is in blog or article form so that you can skip forward to reading the sections that interest you and pick up the concepts rather than the specifics of the code example they are using to demonstrate the concepts.
