Posted 26 July 2019 - 01:29 AM

I am using Windows 7. Which IDE should I use to write Python progs. Is there an IDE which will download Python along with it?

Are you just starting out with Python? If so, don't worry about an IDE. A standard installation of Python comes with a couple of reasonable editors. Even just start with a simple text editor.

I suppose if you want to download both for some reason then Anaconda comes with Spyder, although Intellij is a full IDEA.

Python typically comes with an IDE called IDLE on Windows. It's good enough for writing simple scripts, but as you develop your skills and your codebase grows, you may want to switch to something more capable, such as the popular editor Visual Studio Code, or the Python-centric IDE called PyCharm (there's a free community version). PyCharm would probably be my pick for a more serious project.

Technically, you could write your code in Notepad, but that's not necessarily the best idea when you can use editors/IDE's that automate a lot of stuff for you and help you be more productive.

PS. I've just realized that this topic is not so "fresh," but hopefully someone can still find it relevant.
