I have an interview tomorrow. I have a few questions

Posted 17 September 2019 - 03:51 PM

I know during an interview I am suppose to bring my portfolio, but I will be doing a video chat. So my question is how do I present my portfolio during the interview?

The person conducting the interview knows I am a python programmer, but needs a C++ programmer (A friend recommended me who is the programmer even though the company is teaching him C++) do I mention I am learning C++?

If I should mention to him I am learning C++, if asked I was going to be honest, humble and say from 1 - 10 I am a 1 or 2 in C++. Should I be more confident or just say I am learning it and leave it like that?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, I don't want to blow it.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

As mentioned github is pretty much how you do it. Maybe something that will also compile. ;)

Yikes, expect a rough ride! Stick to the facts of object oriented programming concepts and don't let them get you into the weeds of C++ semantics. I would also take a minute to review inheritance, abstract/virtual keywords and polymorphism. You will surely be asked questions related to one of those topics.

Yes... this will also explain why you have no real C++ examples on your github.

Never offer more info than required unless you know it is good. You want to play up strengths and minimize weaknesses. Just say you are eagerly learning and getting yourself up to speed.

Good luck!

so I suspect they'll want to do a screen share, so have something compilable and ready to show from your computer and have other stuff to show even if it doesn't work, and maybe tidy up your desktop or whatever, hide your porn better and so on.

Thank you everyone for your advice the interview went very well. He kept saying "You'll be a great fit" and saying things like "When you start working here". Apparently, I was mistaken, they use C# and not C++. I realise the two are very similar, but I have a question for you guys. Is there a book I can down load or a website I can learn for free how to code in C#?

Given that it is an investment for your future and career I would purchase a book.

Very good point. Is there a good C# book you could recommend?

Typically I would go to amazon. Plop in my topic, sort by average reviews, and then check most recent. Make a few notes on the handful of books on the topic. I would eyeball the reviews and check out the indexes to see the topics covered.

I wasn't meaning to get pirated stuff. I found a website where I could pay and download my current C++ book and I wanted to do the same so it would be easier to carry. Rather than carrying a large text book.

I found two editions, I was going to get the 9th edition. I have a new question, is C# similar to C++ that there is a C++ 11,14,17?

This is the book I am going to get my offer letter.

Search "c# versions" and see what you get.
