MNIST unzip

Posted 25 October 2019 - 05:39 AM

I assume someone here have used the MNIST dataset for NN training. When I download the files and try to unpack the images the data in the file looks like this:

https://ibb.co/n7MBzK4

Is that not unpacked correctly or is it supposed to look like that in a txt reader (wordpad)?

When I read the file in c# with a streamer I obviously get wierd results since it just read line by line. Do I need to read it as a bitstream or something?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

As I recall, the MNIST data is supposed to be images. Why would you use a text editor to open the files?

It was just to see that data. I thought it would be clearer. But I think I cracked it by using:

byte[] byteArray = File.ReadAllBytes(path);

This gives the bytes, but I still struggle with making it into separate bitmaps
