Legally? You'd have to reinstall.
Illegally, you have to find some software to crack the Windows NT password file.
Also, I believe Knoppix STD contains chntpw, but that hasn't been updated in years, so I doubt it works at all.

I've seen an Image file of a CD which bypasses the password protection on Windows XP. but I've never really tried it.

There are tools out there. ERD Commander works exceptionally well and easy, but I've heard they no longer make it, plus it's like $1500. I have a copy at work

Actually this is really easy to do seeing as the creators of Windows are dumbasses. Start up the computer in safe mode and log onto the admin account named ADMINISTRATOR. Even if the account named "John" was previously your admin account, this account is separate from it. now go to start and go to run. Type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes and just reset the password, its a very useful trick when you need access to certain peoples accounts.

You could also log on as System via the command prompt, thus giving you far greater powers than that of the admin.

Best solution I've seen on this thread. Let me know how that works for you.

Since you left out the details, I'll guess you meant for a Windows systems. & since you didn't specify which Windows OS, I'll guess XP. & since it's your computer & you "forgot" the admin password, I'll guess that it's not really your computer & you are up to something that you shouldn't be.
