Creating a webform vs 2019

Posted 18 December 2019 - 09:19 AM

Hi, so I am new to visual studio 2019 and ASP.net framework. I am currently working through a tutorial on creating a web app. However there tutorial is working in 2015 VS. His tutorial he just adds new item and the webform is there, however I do not have the option to add a webform in 2019 version of visual studio. What is the equivalent in 2019??

Did you install the 'asp.net and web development' chunk in VS2019?

Doing so you get the option to make .NET CORE and Webforms.

You can go to Visual Studio installer and click "Modify" and select the ASP.NET and Web Development option and that should give you what you are looking for.

As a side note to this topic, WebForms is essentially a dead technology these days and you would be better off learning more about MVC/RazorPages/Blazor (If you are staying on the .NET side of doing front-end web development). Otherwise, you could implement using Angular/TypeScript, Vue.js, React.js, etc...

What project type did you add? It should be "ASP.NET Web Application (.NET Framework)" C#.

Then you choose incorrectly if you want a WebForm. .NET CORE is for Razor and MVC pages.
