Coronavirus Thread

Modi hinted at making one, thought I would.

Toilet paper. I'm nearly out again, and every store is out and so is Amazon. Wat do?

Wash cloths, baby wipes, large leaves... Check the weird places too, like Home Depot, Walgreens, Dollar Store

Yellow pages...

Seriously though, us Filipinos also used to use a "tabo". Search for "Filipino tabo"

The toilet paper thing is interesting. It's not like anything about this situation calls for increased use of the stuff - as far as I know, it doesn't give you the shits or anything - so it's not like people are saying "well, better have an extra supply in case I get a dose of COVID". Instead, I think what's happening is, a few people are panic-buying the stuff because it's one of the things that's on their mental list of "stuff to have around for breakdown of society", and that means that people see no TP in stock and figure, well, they must know something I don't know, so they go and stock up, and positive feedback loop occurs.

So that's annoying. On the other hand, the whole stock market is on sale, so if you weren't in a position to buy in 2008 it's a good time to stock up there. So to speak.

I thought it was because it happened in Australia so they were like "that might happen here, better stock up just in case" then other people seeing them do it and it just gets exponentially worse :( I'm not supposed to touch my plumbing, but I'm about to buy a bum gun....

So... schools are closed, colleges moving to online only for the rest of the semester, now CWS, no Berkshire days, no FishFrys, cheaper gas, cheaper flights, mad house at the grocery stores going on day 1.5, concerts moved, and I'm on indefinite work from home with questions if I'll still have a job.

NBA can eat a chinese-booted-dick so no loss there.

A buddy of mine was advised he should be under two week self quarantine as a positive tester was in his company this week (oh, and they closed the entire buillding).

It's a god damned glorious week.

It's much the same in the UK - shops are out of bog roll, handwash, pasta and other things, so some of them are limiting the amount of those items that people can buy. My company gave those of us in London the option of working from home for as long as we need (it's usually just one day a week) if we wanted. Elections have been moved, professional football has been suspended, etc.

Since I'm moving, and all my stuff was packed up my movers and is now in transit, I decided to stop by the local gun shop to have some ammo just in case things go Katrina crazy. Looks like I was not the only one who had the same idea... Not the normal piles of readily available .223, and all the good 9mm was gone -- had to settle for some range quality stuff. And there were lots or people filling out forms forms for handguns and rifles...

Perfect thinking. I mean, what better way to fight off a virus than with a gun?

I have a single spare roll of toilet paper in my house and haven't been worried about getting more, because surely the people in my area aren't the idiots, right? Right? Surely. So when I stop at the grocery store on my way home, I'm sure I'll find some just waiting for me.

Fun fact: you can actually stop the virus with a gun if can shoot the actual virion and you soaked your ammunition in 91%+ alcohol. 60% of the time, it works every time.
