A while back, we got permission to spend Friday afternoons on personal/career development and learning activities. Recently, I was able to actually kick out the time to do that.

So I spent this afternoon and last afternoon digging into Bash so I can work with it for real, and not just copy crap from stack exchange.

Taking the first steps towards cord cutting. I was lucky enough to have all the channels I am interested in all coming from just a single direction 17 miles away! Setting up the paper thin 55 mile paintable antenna facing in the direction recommended by both TVFool and the RCA TV signal app gets me 4 of the 5 must have channels. Of course, the 5th channel that I can't get is the one that we watch the most. I tried another antenna that cost twice as much and got the same 4 out of 5 channels, but with much lower signal levels. I guess that gets returned. The FCC's signal maps indicate that I should be getting a "strong" signal for that channel (while other channels were just supposed to be "medium-strong"). Anyway, while playing with the antenna, I discovered that I could get a "weak" signal for that channel by orienting the antenna 90 degrees off axis.

The geek in me wants to build my own antenna to go into the attic, but I'll likely try out a 150 mile antenna that my co-worker is recommends. He's about 15 miles from his stations but couldn't get a bunch of his channels.

There is one a know a few people have that I can find out about if you care.

My garage walls are 75% painted now. I have one more and then to start in the trip and ceiling, after I take screen door. Still have my sons closet to finish painting and build the custom closet for his room; and to build the hot tub steps. Projects for next weekend!

Tomorrow is knowledge transfer for my promotion.

astonecipher: I'd be curious to hear what they are using. My co-worker has been very happy with this one: Vansky Outdoor Amplified Digital HDTV Antenna 150 Mile

Thanks. I Was reading that site yesterday right after I had posted. I like how his double stack design decided not to compromise between UHF and VHF.

Caught a minor mini painting itch, so printing off some more rando finds from thingiverse to work on technique like a modified 'zenithal priming' without using spray cans.

Yeppie skippy working from home!

I've had the itch to do painting, oil mostly, but I live in a dinky apartment with 2 butthole cats and also I'm just not good enough to really start that. So expensive. That's literally why I bought a tablet 2 years ago, to fulfill my painting itch but w/o buying $1k worth of painting supplies. I decided I'm going to start doing daily studies again. Last night I didn't because I did work training until 7 pm and my brain was big tired, but then I went into my sewing room to see what UFO's I had going, and what patterns I had to bust out a few quick projects. Why am I so spastic? So I'm inspired to paint and sew, and I'm already losing interest in the half finished bed runner I'm hand crocheting from last week. >_>

It's sounding like it's time for a vacation @Neotifa. Even a short road trip maybe worth the headache of trying to find someone to watch the cats while you are away.

I went in to work today to get my flu shot, first time I've been back there while people are since March.

Had to explain that, as a mother of 2 children, I currently have no children at home.

My oldest, 14, had to go to an inpatient psychiatric care facility in May but they weren't equipped to handle them so they're in a residential facility until they stabilize - which was supposed to be June but there just had to be a multi-state man-hunt for them after they ran away from the facility, so it might take a little longer.

My youngest, 8, had to be removed from our home until he stabilizes because he made an attempt at killing one of our cats. He should be home Thursday.

Oh geez that sounds so rough. I hope they are feeling better mentally and nothing bad becomes your kitties.

Also, sky, why do you say that?
