You know the ones. They are generally made of materials such as plastic, cardboard, and paper. There is typically no use for a computer (beyond research) for boardgames, just a couple real life compadres and a few snacks. I've always had a weak spot for boardgames, but lately I've been seriously getting into them, more than I ever thought was possible. Here's what I've been playing:
Carcassonne
Ticket to Ride
Puerto Rico (which by the way, is rated #1 board game of all time on BoardGameGeek.com)
Citadels
Settlers of Catan
Magic the Gathering (Yikes, Cardboard crack)
I highly suggest looking into these. This past month they have come to make me realise a whole new era in my geeky kingdom. Do all'yall have any favourites when you get together with family and friends?

My neighbor LOVES cribbage and will often rope me in. I don't mind the game too much. Wife and I are a pretty good team, actually.

It was always our fireside game when taking family camping trips. For a number of years, there was always a board stuck in one of the pockets in the vehicle. Haven't played as much recently, as my wife just isn't that into it. And for some reason the rest of my family never plays unless we're out in the woods.

Finding a chess player is seemingly very hard to come by around these parts, despite it's global recognition. I've been itching to play a real life game with someone.

Chris, I think you are the first person I know that has played (or heard of) Puerto Rico that I have not played with. Lucky duck.
You guys are pretty close to game central, though. Rio Grande and all, I suppose.
