Today, I am assisting bootcamp mentees with stuff that I don't know much about, specifically, google maps api and js-centric web development, and catching up on some reading.

Running errands, getting more heavy weight leather, color coordinated snaps, and making the visitation rounds to some folk.

I start my journey today. I'm really confused on if I should start my diet now or wait until the gym habit is formed? Honestly, I'm contemplating giving IF another shot so I don't have to track right now. Got all my hair chopped off. Earlier this year it was halfway down my buttcrack, but when I got it cut Saturday, it was just above my bum. Now it's like just above brastrap, Probably lost a good 20 inches of hair over the course of a year. Health > length, so lets hope for continued healthy growth.

So many dang emails. Can't a fella be off work for a week and not get harassed and then harangued for no response?

But hey, I remembered my passwords so at least I got that going for me.

As usual after a long weekend, I overslept. Woke up with two minutes to spare before standup.

Looking forward to an interesting week - offboarding one of the senior engineers who is the only person who really understands our AWS infrastructure as a whole and is completely uninterested in communication.

Hm, one of my coworkers was on vacation all last month. I get back after my Thanksgiving vacation, and notice that he has extended his vacation to be all of December as well. It will be interesting to see if he comes back in the new year.

Went to the gym last night, super sore today. Roommate is home again sick. He's supposed to be taking a home covid test so we'll see what it says (In the time it took me to send this it came back negative).

Glad that your roommate is negative.

Giving up trying to understand the security theater at work. They pushed out an Outlook add-in a few months ago to make it easy to report suspicious mail including phishing attempts. Today security sent out a message disguised as a package delivery notification (for all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shoppers apparently) to test if people would recognize suspicious email and report it. But apparently the way the add-in works is that you have to open the suspicious email first, and then click on the button to report it. The other reporting button the add-in has on the Inbox view is always disabled so you can't report an email without opening it first. So much for the first rule of not opening suspicious emails. *sigh*

Yeah we have that. As long as you don't click any links or download anything you're fine. If you do you get a no-no page and an email gets sent to your manager I think. I only got got once, but I never heard anything about it.

The team that manages the addin says that they assume people have the reading pane in their Outlook default view, and therefore the report button would be available without having to open the message. But don't they understand that the reading pane actually opens the message to be able to show the contents? *Sigh*

I remember telling Kyle Larson when he first put together the reading pane addin prototype for the old Windows mail client almost 25 years ago: no good is going to come of this feature. Apparently, I was wrong and everyone in MS loved the feature to the point that it became a built in feature in Outlook instead of an add-in.

Amusingly, that's my typical work load. Exchange folk love to hate me.

Just make sure not to abuse 'reply to all'! :D

In other news, I got a check for $4.07 from the feds, so I got that going for me.

Fountain pen maintenance - one of my Noodler's pens (a Nib Creaper) had stopped writing nicely, so I cleaned it out. Ended up disassembling it entirely, greasing the piston mechanism, and putting it back together.

Writes beautifully now.

Also, work.
