Not sure whether tutorial was submitted...

Posted 05 February 2008 - 12:32 AM

I posted a tutorial about 2 - 3 days ago but when I check under the member panel and click on the Kudos section it says there: "No tutorials submitted."

Just wondering if this tutorial was successfully submitted or whether I should send it again? I'm not pressuring anyone here - just wondering whether it got lost somewhere along the line...

Thanks.

Your tutorial is in the Moderator queue. All tutorials/snippets get approved from a Team member before it is made public. This is to insure that each snippet/tutorial submitted meets the guidelines and is compliant with programming standards.

We get a lot of submissions, so it can take a few days before a Team member gets an opportunity to check it out.

You will be notified by PM/Email if for some reason the submission is not approved.

No worries.

Just thinking that maybe it should then reflect in your Member Panel as "Pending" or something...?

Anyway thanks for the reply.

Ha ha. By any means your tutorial has been published on the internet and the whole world can read it. Its only that you haven't received kudos. I have also submitted three tutorials on different topics but still nothing credit to my kudos account. So out of curiosity I decided to do some research. I was somewhat sure that they must be placed somewhere. What better can be google to search somewhere something.

Anyway, you can see your tutorial at:
Today I have learnt that Dream in code tutorials are available on various other websites.
Say you have submitted a tutorial and it is published on internet whether approved or not by the moderator/admin on dream in code.

One example is
Swik.net(Click here to see your tutorial)

This website contains all the drean in code published and unpublished tutorials. The admin here is a SEO guy and has links with many websites. So whatever activity happens in dream in code, it goes to the whole world.

thats kinda the point with the tutorials.

you should have received kudos for writing it definitely, but if the admin/moderator who approves your tutorial likes it he will submit it to a couple well known good tutorial listings.

drives traffic to the site and to your tutorial.

Once a Mod or Team member sets your tutorial to Approved status they have a cron job that runs every so often (not sure of the interval) that goes through and adds the Kudos to your account. If the tutorial is declined you will receive a PM, normally (depending on the reviewer) with suggestions on how to improve it to get it approved.

You've received kudos for the 2 snippets that were approved.

I need to work with the SWiK folks as they are syndicating our tutorials, but aren't pulling the correct feed. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

This is really dicouraging for a member that the tutorials have not been even viewed while on the other hand some other old member of this site is receiving kudos which means that his tutorials/snippets have been attended to. There should be some fairness to all members whether new or old and if some one submits a tutorial a day then it will called flooding after two weeks(imagine reading and approving/not approving 14 tutorials/snippets by same member) and will not be even seen once. :( :( :( :ohno:
Please be fair to all the members.

bhandari the mods dedicate their time to the site, they don't intentionally skip over people, they get a list of stuff that has to be approved they don't go through and pick out only the people they know because one tutorial is just as valuable to the site as another.

I'm a friend of many of them and can ask them to look at mine and see if they like it because I discuss them to improve them but beyond that there is no favoritism going on.

bhandari ,

Moderators and Admin's are all experts in different fields and if they don't feel they know enough on a certain topic they more than likely wont set a tutorial to Approved until it's reviewed by someone who is an expert in that field. There is no favoritism being shown as capty pointed out, it's just a matter of whether an expert in the language you submit your tutorial or snippet in is online at that time.

Plus, all Moderators and Admin's have regular lives as well, they're not like people like me who spend as much time here as humanly possible, because right now I'm on medical leave. They have jobs, school, families and such. Sometimes a little patience is in order, if you had any idea of how over worked they are it would probably blow your mind. So please, cut them a little slack :)

And aren't we all grateful for that, otherwise no tutorials or snippets would be approved because the mouse would continually slip out of their hands when they went to do it :P
