I'm not a fan boy but I think WoW is a pretty solid game. I played it off and on for about two years now and I'm dinging to 54.
Last time I played I used the BC free trial, this time it's the WoTLK trial!

World of Warcraft is *easily* worth the $15/month. Show me a game of similar quality that's free. And yes, I've played Guild Wars. I was not impressed.

Whats so great about WoW? Nothing. I'm a fan of every blizzard game and was stoked when WoW was coming out. Went and bought it the first day it came out and got online. Quit playing after 2 weeks cuz it was soooo lame.
Conversation with friends who liked it:
Me: this game sucks.
Them: you gotta get to level 5 and its fun
Me: i got to level 5 and it still sucks
Them: you gotta get to level 10 and its fun

Me: i got to level 15 and it still sucks
Them: you gotta get to level 20 and its fun
Me: f*** that....cancel
Oh and the quests....kill 5 skeletons, kill 5 zombies, kill 5 bears....etc.. then when you get to level 10 they switch it up on you: collect 5 bear pelts, collect 5 skeleton hands...etc which you get by killing the animals. I found it lame that not every bear had a bear pelt. Soooo lame

I was not interested in WOW for a long time until a friend introduced it. Now addicted.
I would think it best if you try it to see if it works or not.
Not all people are into that type of games which is cool
I enjoy since it gets me away from reality for an hour a day just to relax after working for 8 to 12 hours fixing hardware at work.

$15 month * 12 Months = $180.00
Cost of Game = $39.00
Internet Fees = $33.00 month (Cable)
Total amount wasted = $252.00
Thats one overrated game for the cost of a Wii.
One overrated game for 1/2 cost of Xbox 360.
the list goes on and on.

I love how you calculated the cost per year and even included the monthly cost of the Internet into the "money wasted" category. That's a very rational argument.
Sarcasm aside, anybody who considers paying 50 cents a day for their entertainment to be too expensive should either get a job or drink some poison.
I am joking, of course...

WoW is too expensive.
I could understand if the game was free, but you had to pay to play, but nooooo, first you have to buy the game which is full price, then you have to pay for each month. On top of that you also have to pay for the substantially more expensive electric bill, the maid service to clean up your house because you're too busy playing WoW to do it, and the rehab later in your life.

I agree. It's not like this game is running on hundreds of servers that require a daily maintenance. And it's definitely not like this game has a team of developers who are updating/fixing the game and are constantly adding a new content. Paying 50 cents a day for this is too expensive indeed. Couldn't agree more.

loving the sarcasm there
in all seriousness though. as a female all-round gamer, i find that as far as MMORPGs go WoW is the best one i've played out of about 6 i tried.
Sure i don't pay to play every month which kinda sucks when i feel i need to relax and i know WoW isn't there, but i'm not the kind that will go crazy without it - i can stick with other games until i get the time/money to play WoW again.
and oh God, i don't understand those people that would rather play Runescape - i tried for like half an hour and wanted to throw the computer out the window or gouge my eyes out - it was horrendous.
