Did you check the jumpers on the CD and DVD Drivre? Depending on the age fo the Drives it still maybe need the jumpers configured for it to boot properly. Just a thought though, if you are hearing noised form the drive them its probably time to replace.

Yeah, I was looking into getting a new one.
And it said underneath it "Software is not supplied with this drive"
I don't mean to sound silly but what does that actually mean?
Does it mean like, a drivers disk or something?

It refers to things like burning software or DVD playback software.

Ahh right, well, that's good enough for me, because most new pc's come with software such as that.

Ok, the new disk drive didn't work. The disk didn't boot up.

Did BIOS recognize your drive?
Check your cable (power, and data as well), maybe it is damaged.

I dont know if BIOS recognised my drive, but none of the cables are damaged, because the power supply is new, and the IDE cable is new too.

Unfortunately that doesn't guarantee anything, DOA is not uncommon in that field
I have just bought an ASUS SATA DVD RW drive, that could only read, so nothing is impossible (RMA solved it, the replacement part works fine) .

All the cables are new, so i wouldn't think that they were damaged.
Also I don't know where it would be listed in BIOS, if you mean it saying "CDROM" then yeah, it is. If you mean it's exact name listed somewhere, then i've not seen it.

Usually next to "CDROM" or "HARD DRIVE" it says something like "LITE-ON LTR-2410B" or "WDC1600JB-BLAH".
Does it appear in the POST? As in; full model name and everything?

If you enter the BIOS, does it show up somewhere in the boot section as an option?
Also, when you turn on your comp, does it's led lights up, or does it spin up?

the LED lights work fine.
It's once it tries to boot windows, it restarts itself.
before it tries to load windows, it some sort of system check, and checks for hardware. I think it tries to check for the old hardware and realises it's not there. I've installed new hardware since, like motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU, CD Drive.
Is there a way to turn the system check thing off?
