Jump Drive Security
Posted 01 March 2008 - 11:09 AM
Does anyone know of any free jump drive security? I have 3 jump drives and need to add security to them so not all the files are accessible. Thanks for any help.

Is this prompting with a message about it? Or is it a setting on your hard drive you looked at?
Also what OS do you have?

I am using XP sp2. I had a Lexar jump drive that had security on it that worked great. I don't have that drive anymore. Let a friend borrow it and he never returned it. All my jump drives now are Kingston. They have no security. Thanks

So your Lexar wasn't so secure after all. You lost it.

My jump drive is secure but my friend is a security risk. I bet he didn't get to the files in the secure section of the drive. Didn't really have any secure files on it at that time but I need this feature now.

A quick Google-ing turned up this:
http://www.magic2003...crypt/index.htm
Looks like it encrypts the whole disk, and requires the software to be installed on any PC that you wish to access it with. So I dunno if that's what you're looking for...

Oh I got confused when you said Jump Drive
. I though you were talking about a feature on a physical hard drive, but you are talking about a flash drive.

Any system you use will be OS and vendor specific, which is why I never bothered with the things.
In linux I'd just create an image file and load an encrypted file system on it, and mount that file on the client. For more primitive systems...
If you're worried, try an encrypted archive file? A password protected zip. Even leave a copy of the archive program on the drive.

Soda is that fizzy shit that tastes like crap - yeah you know CLUB SODA (even says it in the name.) Everyone I know refers to it as a Jump Drive.
You NY / NJ people talk funny anyways. I know - I frequent there a lot.
Now if you don't mind I will go enjoy some more POP

I know when I lived in Georgia they called it soda and would look at me weird if I asked for a pop. Now that I'm in Washington State it's the way it should be...POP!! But even in Washington State it's called a JUMP DRIVE dammit
