Ok, I have a work laptop which is part of a windows domain. I have a home network with a number of computers on it.

I can not access any of the local network resources from my laptop. I can not ping the other computers etc. I CAN access the router.

I just spent hours troubleshooting VMWare remote desktops just to find out that the problem was with my laptop not the VMWare (which is actually really easy to set up for remote desktop access).

I *think* the problem is my workgroup/domain... however I don't know if I can change this for my laptop. But if that is the case, how come when I am customer sites I can use their printers and shared drives?

what kind of router is it? if you CAN do it at customer sites and not your own it pretty much leaves your router to blame

What is really odd to me is that I can ping from my home computer to my laptop but not the other way...

Home: 192.168.1.100
Laptop: 192.168.1.102


so If I am on my home computer and I type "ping 192.168.1.102" it works.
but if I am on my laptop and type "ping 192.168.1.100" it fails.


OHHHHHHH.... figured it out... and I feel stupid... it was the firewall on my home computer.

Domains & workgroups are Microsoft technologies, & should not effect the networking ability of your equipment.

heh, nevermind, I see now that you have already fixed this.
