I live waaaaay out in the boonies, here's my stats off basic DSL

Up until about 18 months ago they didn't even offer any kind of high speed connections out here, it was dial-up or nothing

Yeah, overall US internet service pales in the comparison to other countries'.

lol, unfortunately my dad is pretty satisfied with 256Kbps. It seems sufficient 'cuz he only checks his email from home.

Believe it or not, between my roommate and I, we use it. And we pay $34.95 a month, plus a phone line. Comes out to a pretty even $50/mo. Cable Internet around here costs about the same for equivalent speeds.
