Mobile Processors

How do mobile processors work? They last longer on batteries than the desktop counterparts, etc. But how does the performance differ? What happens when you use a laptop with an AC adapter? What happens when you run it on batteries?

generally the mobile CPUs are smaller, thinner, and are just designed from the chipset up to run on less power. are they less powerful? yes. when i was still at gateway, the general concensus was that mobile CPUs run about 2/3rds as "fast" as their desktop counterparts at the same clock speed. mobile CPUs are designed to run on less votage. the less voltage the slower it goes. lower voltage also means a cooler chip. its a big trade off. power vs. temp.
