What Do You Think ?

Ok , I used to have my computer under my desk and my ex. HP cd burner was connected directly to the PC , but I moved it up to the other desk like thing next to my main desk, and I think ever since then my cd burner has not been working , it keeps having a buffer under run , when I moved my computer I plugged the cd burner into my USB hub instead of directly into the pc ( the cord couldn’t reach to the pc , and I think ever since I did that its been having the errors ) so now its connected back directly into the PC and I have a hunch it will work but I have no CD-R’s to test my theory , my theory is , My CD burner isn’t broken , it just has buffer under run errors because it was running to slow because it had to run through the USB hub ect. , Is this possible, you think if I went and got some cd-r’s my burner actually works fine?

Hubs do not provide enough bandwith/power to run larger usb devices (camera's, net cards, mp3 players, cd burners, scanners...)

not true
i have a usb hub in which my Cd-Writer/Mouse/Camera is plugged into
and they all work perfectly
If hubs did not provide the power why would people buy them? of course they provide enough power, my cd-writer is 4x, works perfectly while im using the camera/mouse too

Yeah , i have a powered USB hub that my scanner and web cam are pluged into and they work fine , Let me give you a update on what i did , i went to the local wal mart , bought a 10 pack of cd-rs , ran one , at about 32 % it quit ( Just like Last time ) so i had a idea , I pluged it into my newer USB 2.0 card ( NOTE this CD-R drive IS NOT usb 2.0 ) and now i have burned 2 cd's without a hitch , Weird i know , but i guess thats just how Electronics are ...

Ben, great it worked for you... however it is really funny if you read on the sites, the manual, and such that most powered hubs do not provide enough power to run the devices. I'm sure you uber leet anti-creative personality got the best of the best hubs, spending a ton of cash on it and now think your great. (hey, I just got around to reading the posts on case mods...)

actuially no

i found that in the bargin bin at future shop and bought it for 10 bucks
it can carry my mouse, digital camera & my cd-writer
mose mice use 100Ma, Most cameras use 100Ma, and my Writer uses nothing, becuase its plugged into the wall
& also, my digital organiser (when i use it) uses 120Ma, and i can have all 4 things plugged in and use them all at the same time with no problem
so you see, my hub is pretty crappy, but it gets the job done.
this 10$ hub can go from 100Ma to 500Ma, and as you see, im using 320Ma
works like a charm
