I would say it's a good starting point in many ways, even though it can be very destructive, it's certainly very interesting, and certainly got me thinking about learning how to code properly.

Yes, it's not always good, but for the most part... Hackers are curious and want see how things work. The word "Hacker" has to many negatives attached to it and is often over used.

It all depends on how the knowledge and lessons are applied. If your out to do damage, then there's a problem. Playing around with source and such can be a great learning tool for many. I see no issue with learning things in this way, as long as there is no adverse effect on others.

hehehe *remembers the way novell client used to work*

There used to be a big red "N" in the system tray showing options for those connected to novell client (my whole school). One of teh options was sending a message(a dialouge box to every novell client user that flashed for about a second)

so we sent messages to the whole school or messages that only our friends would understand, leaving everyone wondering WTF just happened. one day my teacher caught me hitting return repeatedly and i had to write something like 100 times.....so degrading!
(in the end i only had to write it 20 times, cuz i fixed most of her computers frequent problems during the punishment)

that's me experience w/network messaging :D

Full scoop..

So, I made the file on our network drive, and duplicated it afew times with names like 'Counter-Strike Extract' 'Quake 2' 'Teach passwords' (and made the sshortcut icon accordingly.

Anyways, my friend and I are just sitting there messing around with flash and 10.. 15.. 20 minutes go by, and think there must be a problem of some sort. So, we wanted to test it out, and I told him to go to the library and open it up there then jet out!

Well, It turns out we actually didnt need to, because just as we said this, BOOM.. EVERY computer has messages with random text like 'OHHHHH OHHH'. And all the quake boys in my class are like WHo the fuk did this!!!!!!!!

So, we are all playing along going 'what the hell?!?!' and we realize the computer name is coming from the class beside us. So this big geek raid of quakers run over there and ask the teacher whos using nw0113wog and she points to that computer and shes like 'You are sending messages to everyone!' anyways. i ran outta there in my class.

Soon, MY teacher comes back and hes like
"This guy who sent all theese messages is pretty smart. What he did was put a file on the network, and when its open, it sends messages to everyone in our school'

So, yeah.. he didnt get introuble because the teacher said this guy had no idea what he was doing.

They soon did a FUll delete on our network drive to remove everything, and then I just add it again before I leave to next class ;) MUYAHAHAHAHA

hehe, I bet your network admins are pretty pissed off :)

if they remove it again I would just leave it though, find sommat else to mess with.

you don't wanna go getting caught now do you?

then you probably would get expelled :P
