sound problem in xp

Posted 26 May 2008 - 09:06 AM

problem started when :
my friend called me using Yahoo Messenger, I wasn't there, I saw the missed call entry, the moment I deleted the entry, suddenly my sound disappeared.

what happened? can anyone help me? I check the device manager, my sound driver is working just fine, and I didn't muted the volume setting by accident.

I'm in desperate need of my music. I can't code without music :(

edit : after my friend leave a recorded voice call in YM, the sound suddenly came back. I don't know the reason. maybe conflict with YM? although my computer has come back to normal condition, any explanation would be greatly appreciated. :)

I would of advised uninstalling the driver to re - install it (if it doe i again.)
I would look at stripping MSconfig for any sw conflicts.

One thing about sound devices in Windows, if full control is given to a process & that process ends unexpectedly, or hangs, then the control of the sound card is lost until the next reboot as Windows is waiting for that process to end. You might be able to get away with killing whatever process has the device locked, but chances are that may not work.

Learn to play the harmonica when you code, I find it rather soothing, especially after about a 5th of Tequila :)

At that point which is more interesting, the harmonica, or the code?

I would guess the harmonica. Although the next morning I bet that code is fun too!
