Not on the Linux box that scans them first when I go somewhere that I might suspect. The majority of the time, I plug the drive into a computer of someone I know, and that I know takes the same precautions I do. So I don't worry about it.

An external hard drive would plug in over USB or Firewire, and it makes it a hell of a lot easier to transport data between two computers. And when you eventually get a new PC, it'll be easier than ripping out a hard drive from inside the case than just to unplug a USB cable. And like I said... Makes moving easier, so you can take it to a friends house and still have your data.

And what are you referring to when you say ghosting/cloning? Making an image of you entire install for backup purposes, like if your hard drive were to fail? Because there's a log of software that'll do that, and it's perfectly legal in the US, but I have no idea about it's legality in whatever country you happen to find yourself in.

EDIT: You don't have to put an external drive on top of the case. Mines sitting on my desk, plugged in and turned on, and it's a good two or three feet away from the system it's plugged into.

What I meant about ghosting, is that I want to create an exact copy of all my files including OS, software, files, etc. so That I won't be reinstalling everything.

I don't want an external HD because they are expensive and for me useless. I don't think all your software installed in an external HD would run on other computer since softwares are registry dependent unless it is portable or something. And my CPU is never closed so its easy to remove things inside.

A hard drive that could run inside the cpu would be pretty amazing I must say.

He was just having some fun at your expense, because you were constantly referring to your computer case as the CPU. The case is the box you put all your stuff into like motherboard, hard drives, etc. The CPU is the central processing unit, aka processor, the little thing that does the computations and you plug it into the motherboard. So now read back what was funny about your comments :D

Now I know I really don't have a future here.

Next time when my teacher ask me to turn off my CPU i'll correct him. Its called CC aka computer case. lmao  :D

Good day to all.

First of, I'm the type of person who don't result to reformatting a hard drive just to fix it. It's been almost 5 years now since my mom bought my PC and never did I reformatted the hard drive.

my PC specs:

1. Pentium 4 2.26 gHz
2. 512 MB RAM >> I'll probably buy another one.
3. 40 GB hard Drive >> not the SATA type.
4. Asrock MoBo >> can support 2 SATA and 2 non-SATA HD.

The problem is, My Hard Drive is now FULLY LOADED and my Mom agreed on buying a new one. I want to know if its a good IDEA to use Two hard Drives and what type of hard Drive suits me best. SATA or non-SATA?

Advantages/ disadvantages of dual hard drive?
Up to how many Hard Drive can I possibly install in my Current Pc Specs?

it all works the same. u just got 2 drive so a C:\ drive and something else like F:\
if i were u i would reformat it. every time i get a new peace of hardware i do.
it runs so much faster.
peace :^: :^:
