VERY weird email

Posted 24 June 2008 - 03:45 AM

It's probably just spam, but this looks weird...

My girlfriend got this email last night:

Quote

Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2008 19:33:04 -0400
From: [email protected]
Subject: Message ("Command executed under your origin at the behest...")
To: [email protected]

Command executed under your origin at the behest of [email protected]:

> SET SPEIS NOPOST
SPEIS: Some of the options you specified are restricted to list owners. No
option will be changed for the SPEIS list.

(note - the request originated from [email protected])

WTF is it?

I Googled a few things (gotta love Google ) and got some results:
DOE: Department of Energy
SPEIS: Supplemental Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement

If you copy and paste either [email protected] or [email protected] into the address bar, it takes you to http://vm1.hqadmin.doe.gov/

The weirdest thing is that it's an American government thing, and we're from the UK.

Just for mensahero:
:blink::blink::blink::blink::blink::blink::blink:

 Lmao.

I'm from Philippines, but I still experienced something like that. Its when I'm using Yahoo Messenger and I tried to capture my Friends IP through netstat, I noticed a weird Ip in the netstat list and when I tried it in my browser it leads me to the blablabla.gov website or something; it has a big white house in the homepage. I think thats normal.

Reminds me of the time I spoofed emails from the FBI to friends in my class back several years ago. Freaked them out. But they were not true h4x0rs so it was all pretty easy and hence lame.

:P
