What show is better?
Posted 15 July 2008 - 02:10 PM
I've been a Stargate fan since the original movie. I used to like Star Trek, but it got old (and i've seen just about every episode of every series ever made). Sorry Star Wars fans, but none of the movies ever did do if for me. The new Stargate Continuum movie has come out, and i'm looking forward to seeing it. I was just wondering what all the other programmers thought of SciFi.

Star Wars isn't a show. Never really got into Star Gate.
Star Trek probably needs a qualifier; some series were far better than others. Some of the seasons of "The Next Generation" are probably the best, IMHO.
Firefly is good, though an odd kind of genre for sci-fi. The new Battlestar Galactica ( dons flame retardant ) is more space opera than anything else. For SciFi channel fare, I thought Eureka was the best, though they really lost steam after the first season.
The current Doctor Who incarnation has consistently delivered, so I'd have to offer that as the best.

I've always liked Stargate, both SG-1 and Atlantis - although SG-1 was definitely better when Richard Dean Anderson was on it.

Firefly was alright. I watched it once on SciFi. Maybe I just didn't catch a very good episode.
-----------------------
I liked Farscape. I've still got to finish watching season two, just haven't had the time. Saw the movie and liked it, except for the part where Dargo (I have no clue how to spell his name) dies.
-----------------------
Stargate SG-1 was good up until season ten. It's kind of funny because they actually got the two main actors from Farscape to play the new roles. The storyline stopped making sense though. The last episode was ridiculous. The Asgard suddenly decide to commit suicide? They decide to give their technology to Earth? Since when? That's completely out of character for them.
Even more annoying is that once they got the beam weapons, they could destroy an Ori ship in one shot (and can basically fire repeatedly at full power). So why the hell did they run? The only reason they got stuck at the end is because they stopped blowing up Ori.
Stargate SG-1 should have ended season 9.
-----------------------
I really liked Andromeda, but after season two they got a new writer, the best character (Tyr) left, and the show became unbearable.
-----------------------
Star Trek TNG was always good.
Star Trek TOS was always good.
Star Trek DS9 was always good.
Star Trek ENT was always good.
Star Trek VOY was usually good, but they ruined the Borg, and a lot about the show didn't make sense.
-----------------------
Doctor Who (at least the new ones) are great. It's the only show I regularly watch that's still in production.
-----------------------
I like The Outer Limits, though it can be hard to get into due to the lack of recurring characters in most episodes.
-----------------------
I like Star Wars, but there was no Star Wars television show so I consider it separately from television SciFi. If we're going to bring SciFi movies into the discussion, I could write a few more pages.
Edit: Stargate Atlantis is good, the new doctor is absolutely awful though.
Edit2: Please ignore my grammatical typos, just woke up.

Star Trek: Enterprise was a good show to watch when they aired it.

I like Star Trek TNG the best. The original Star Trek is also good. DS9 is ok.
I like Stargate SG 1 sometimes.

I liked Smallville, but I never really considered it SciFi. I guess that's because "normal" people watch it.
For anyone that doesn't know what Smallville is, it's basically Clark Kent before he's Superman.
Yes I realize that it sounds like a sitcom. If anything it's a soap opera + scifi in one package.
