Assign Icons To Filetypes

Posted 28 July 2008 - 01:52 PM

___¿Qué? Што? Huh? I've been learning about and using personal computers for twenty-three years (not to mention mainframes!), and I've used more operating systems than I have fingers--maybe I could even run out of toes. Windows Vista has me truly cheesed, chapped, perturbed, pissed, just plain f___ing MAD. Does anyone out there have any idea how to control/customize the icons Vista uses to represent file types? I am certain the code is still in there, that they've just made the tab go away. The Folder Options GUI is still there, but the "File Types" tab has vanished. I want specific customized icons to represent my files. I am USED to having my way. This is MY environment, and I strongly resent Microsoft taking that away from me. Idiots do caralho! Смерт Микрософт! I'm starting to eyeball Macs. The only reason I haven't bought one is that I have so much ($$$$) non-Mac compliant software and games.

___You'll have to pardon my ire. Expert with all the applications in Microsoft's document applications from Lotus 1-2-3 through Office 2003, I am extremely displeased with Office 2007. I bought it, and it's garbage. There is no "How to keep doing what you USED to be able to do" documentation [read: No "What's new?], no Changes reviews...and FORGET about FAQs. I can't even put simple page numbers in my documents now unless I create the file in Works or OxygenOffice (I'm pretty sure I can do it in FrontPage, too) and import it into Word. I am so teed off that I'm seeing Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES} instead of "Page 123 of 942." Microsoft doesn't even support the software they sell unless you threaten to pull their teeth with rusty pliers and no booze.

• Help with the icons, please. I have an incredible icons collection (actually, many libraries and collections, gigabytes worth), many of them created by yours truly, and it's more than mildly irritating that I can no longer use many of them, the least of which is the attached RTF icon I customizedAttached File  RTF___R__.ico (1.05K)
Number of downloads: 44.

AMENDMENT (Edition)
___I found out what was wrong regarding the field codes in MSO Word 2007. Take a look at the Logo [replaced File menu]> Word Options> Advanced> Show Document Content screenshot:

___The trouble was of a type common to the dunderheads at Microsoft: STUPID default values AND not putting all the options of a document property in the same place. Logic should dictate that Show/Hide Field Codes would be on the View menu--but it's not. THIS property adjustment cannot be made until you access what used to be the File menu. Problem solved. And if this happened to help anyone, ensure that changes are global or local (new documents versus current document only), as needs dictate. Still would like some assistance with icon control.
