Hey all!
Thanks for the posts the other day.
I have a semi deadish toshiba satellite a105-2141 right now.
I'm hoping someone can give me some suggestions to try and fix this computer.
Right now this laptop will not turn on. I know I still have at least some power because I see the little lights on the case light up. I took it in to a shop to test both my power supply and dc jack both of which were good.
I have tried reseating everything internally and so far nothing. What should my next move be??
Thanks!!
can't turn computer onlcd lights still light up

If you hook up an external monitor, does it get a display?

Hey all!
I actually found the problem. It was the ribbon cable that runs from the power button to the MOBO. Does anyone know of a more accurate name so I can find a replacement?? Also any ideas where I might get one??
Thanks again!

I would have to say, that the likely hood of you getting another button cable is slim to nil. If you're good at electronics then just wire up another switch somewhere else on the case.
Something like a push button switch (momentary switch) from Dick Smith / Radioshack would do the trick. Just follow the button cables to the motherboard and either use a push on sleeve or solder directly to the headers on the motherboard.
That should do the trick.

Radioshack?
Chances are the connectors to the switch & Motherboard are proprietary for that specific model. That's usually how laptop hardware works. Finding a replacement shouldn't be difficult. If there isn't one on eBay, just buy a damaged or parts system & pull it from there.

Oh without a doubt the connectors are brand and model specific.
But in essence they all do the same thing, the short two headers for a split second to send a 'turn on' signal to the motherboard.
If you can't find a button that will be a suitable replacement, you can always 'make do'
As I was implying. (Sometimes purchasing a 'parts' system off ebay for $50, is worth more than the laptop is)
