USB connecting problem

Post icon  Posted 30 July 2008 - 12:10 AM

Guys 'n' Gals,

A month or so ago I tried to plug my Sandisk USB pen into my PC (XP SP2) to download some photos. The Usb pen said it was being charged but the PC seems to have no inkling that it's connected. I can't force it to pick it up when it can't see anything there at all. I've not been able to connect it to the PC since.

Can anyone suggest what might (not) be happening?

Thanks,all

Can you try it on another USB port, or try a known working device on that port?

Have you confirmed whether the USB pen drive works in another system?

This would eliminate a few variables:

1. The USB Pen still works.
2. The USB header may be faulty.

If the USB drive works, then it could be an issue with your USB headers for your computer. If it doesn't, then it's more likely your pen drive has died.

If on the other hand it does work, try Right clicking on My Computer and going to manage.

Then down to Disk management and check that the drive is being picked up in there. If it is, it might not be picking up a drive letter.

You can assign one by right clicking on the left box of the pen drive and selecting change drive letter, then selecting a drive letter that is not currently in use. (This happens if you have mapped drives as these are not 'logical' drives to the computer)

That's a good possibility. Sorry for your loss.
