I have my laptop hooked up to a wired LAN in ubuntu, but when i tell it to switch to wireless, it tries to connect and then says that the network needs a passcode. I enter it in, and it says that it needs a passcode again. It also says that it has no signal stregnth. So i tried the ubuntu help pages for broadcom, followed several online tutorials, and still no go. I've exhausted all of my other options, so i have to post. I hoped i could get it to work on my own, but i can't seem to get the drivers and firmware to play nice.
Oh, and i am using ubuntu 8.04 LTS.

I tried that. It works (kinda) now. Theproblem:
I click on the network manager, type in my network name and WEP key, and it shows no reception, and when i click on it, it says it needs a WEP key, which i just gave it!
Does it have to do with the switch on my laptop that turns on the card's antenna? It doesn't seem to work, but it might have been bypassed by ubuntu. In windows, the spring-loaded switch on the front of my laptop displays "Wireless LAN Disabled" and "Wireless LAN Enabled" whenever i flick it to the side (and then it slides back).

Do I just give up and admit that most sites out there says that i have the specific wireless driver that is often unsupported by linux! Could broadcom just give linux some code so they can make some native firmware that WORKS, unlike fwcutter!
Why did i start trying linux? Oh yeah, i'm starting to think that wasn't worth it!!!

Because Broadcom is one of those companies that are a**holes. You could try NDISWrapper, but I don't know if it'll work.
