Tutorial & Snippets Organization

Posted 01 August 2008 - 09:28 AM

I noticed recently how much the tutorial & snippets section has been growing, the list can be tiresome searching sometimes.

Is there any easy way to set up a more organized method of finding tutorials.

Maybe like sectioning them off. Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced or by a certain category like Classes, Functions.

Maybe a table of contents with links to them?

Edit - after re-reading this it might be fine in site feedback, but I just was wondering what others thought as well. I think the tutorials and snippets are a valuable resource, however searching for stuff that has or hasn't been done yet can be tiresome.

I agree the snippet section could due with reorganizing with more viewing options.
For example a treeview, you don't need to include the actual snippet, this a link to the snippet page.

Snippets
- VB.Net [ {x} Snippets]
 - Alphabetically [ {x} Snippets]
  - A to M [ {x} Snippets]
   + A to D [ {x} Snippets]
   + E to G [ {x} Snippets]
   + H to J [ {x} Snippets]
   + K to M [ {x} Snippets]
 - N to Z [ {x} Snippets]
  + N to Q [ {x} Snippets]
  + R to T [ {x} Snippets]
  + U to W [ {x} Snippets]
  + X to Z [ {x} Snippets]
  - By Date [ {x} Snippets]
   - Aug 2008 [ {x} Snippets]
 	- 30 Aug [ {x} Snippets]
	  Snippet 1
	  Snippet 2
	  Snippet 3
	- 29 Aug
	  Snippet 1
	  Snippet 2
 + Jul 2008 [ {x} Snippets]
 + Jun 2008 [ {x} Snippets]
 + Etc
+ C++ [ {x} Snippets]
 - Alphabetically
  - A to M
   + A to D
   + E to G
   + H to J
   + K to M
 - N to Z
  + N to Q
  + R to T
  + U to W
  + X to Z
 + Aug 2008
 + Jul 2008
etc

This information could gained from a XML file, to reduce the load on the database.
Initially the generation of the first XML may take some time,
But subsequent additions will quicker just inserting the Approved snippet into the XML.

I'm thinking on this and will come up with some ideas, especially for the next iteration of the snippets area.

It would be very nice to have a keyword-search for the snippets and tutorials, maybe include some Meta-tags for every snippet that could be used in an autofiller-function for easy search.
Oh and I came up with the perfect name.. DICipedia

Sorry, maybe that was over the line.
