Hail folks!

Noticed today that my comp was awfully slow, and got to pokin around the processes list to see what was the matter. I can't find anything wrong in particular except that windows xp appears to be running svchost.exe in about 5 seperate instances, one of them taking up 16,628K of memory. At it's lowest my processor is 47% taxed, and that just ain't right. System specs:

AMD Duron 1.2Ghz (not currently overclocked, although it's stable to 1.45Ghz)
1.5 Gigs of PC1600 DDR
motherboard is a Gigabyte 7DXR
harddrive is a 10,000 rpm ibm... starion is it? Blanking here.
CPU is cooled by a volcano 6 that is functioning perfectly, so it's not a processor heating issue.

Two questions come to mind. Firstly, do I really need all those svchost.exe processes running? Even though they won't let me end task on em without forcing me restart. And secondly, got any ideas on how to improve my processor usage? Perhaps it has something to do with that extra ram.... I upgraded/downgraded from 512 megs of PC2100 to 1.5 gigs of PC1600. Benchmarks are amazing, but I didn't have the cpu usage until a week or two after the ram upgrade. And it's all crucial ram btw.

if you have 1.5GBs of RAM i hardly think that 16MBs is killing you.
i have 544MBs and here's my TM with a 17MB svchost.
