Desktop Failure

Posted 23 August 2008 - 06:35 PM

Hello,

I have a windows XP desktop. It has been crashing lately and now everytime I log in it crashes. I think it might have something to do with the flash games my brother plays on it. Maybe a site he went to and it put a virus on... Not sure anyway to start it to delete all his programs and check?

Safe Mode doesn't seem to work...

Thanks for any help

Can you give a little more detail to "crashes" & "safe mode doesn't work"?

Well, win32k.sys is a corrupt file apparently. Something about non page. When you try to boot in safe mode it asks for you to install windows even though we have a legal copy and have installed it 5 or 6 years ago.

Boot off of your install cd, & select "r" for repair. At the command prompt, move win32k.sys to win32k.bak. Then run chkdsk /r & it should replace the now missing file with the original. If that doesn't work, you can move win32k.sys back.
