I have a 48X 12X 48X burner, and a 16X DVD-rom in my pc. I have windows xp installed. It used to read every kind of cd u could think of. Now all of a sudden neither cdrom will read my windows xp cd. And i have 2 or 3 copies of it. Nothing on any of them. I have changed the drives out (I have a spare 32X burner) and still wont read it. Any ideas? My first xp cd seems to be F.U.B.A.R. cuz it wont read on my lap top either. I got a different copy and it will read in windows but wont boot the cd for a new install. HELP!

doesn't XP have a limited number of installs that can be done before it screws you over and erases itself?

you have to change the boot sequence in the BIOS.

Yeah, there is no way they are.
But windows xp sends hardware data to a database at microsoft and will only allow one copy to be installed for each cd key... it really suscks it locks you out if you try to install more than one copy. I had a whole bunch of keys and I forgot what ones I had used so i doubbled up one and it killed my older install, i hade to whip up the fdisk and reinstall. :\

I had the same problem, I had two hard-drives, a burner and an ASUS DVD-rom. All of a sudden one day while I was watching a movie (DVD) the movie would block every 15 seconds for about 2 seconds. I had the DVD-rom on Master and the burner on Slave. I switched the DVD to Slave and the burner to Master and now everything works fine.
PS: all movies would do that before switching the two devices.
