Yesterday when I went home from work, my wife informed me that our internet connection was not working. I did everything imaginable to try and reconnect it and after a few hours i gave up and called the tech support guys.
They informed me that my service had been suspended due to an abuse complaint lodged against me by, Fucking Warner Bros. Entertainment Corporation! I was not entirely surprised at first as I am admittely a BTjunkie. I was surprised to find out that they flagged me for 1 file. As it turns out, Warner Bros leaned on my ISP, which also happens to be my cable provider to start cracking down on people that share files over the internet. The tech support guy i talked to was pretty cool about it and made a few jokes about calling the FBI which we both had a good laugh at. They informed me that If I get another abuse violation, the only way to get my service turned back on would be by either hand written letter or fax which could take a period of 2 to 3 weeks.
I will divulge that the file I was downloading was a movie, and that it the title of which rhymes with "The Mark Light." At the time of my D.O.S., the file had already been deleted from my PC so i could honestly say that I no longer had the file on my HDD to the support guy. And yes i know that sharing copyrighted media is wrong blah blah blah... whatever. The point I want to make here, and the one that is relavant to this thread is that I recieved no warnings from my ISP that my service was going to be interrupted. Not an e-mail, voicemail, snailmail, nothing. Had I not called them I would not have known why my cable internet suspended and not had the long winded and mostly uninteresting story to tell you all.

Well, 1st off the email is an obvious forgery, due to the horrible abuse of the English language and I wanted to make others aware that it's a known virus so they don't go opening up the attachment. 2ndly I don't waist my time downloaded torrents, where Time Warner & Sony have an enormous track record of doing to subscribers just like they've done to you. You do the crime, you pay the time, simple as that. When you speed, you risk getting a ticket, when you sell & buy drugs you risk getting arrested, when you download movies & music illegally, you risk getting your internet service taken away & a possible fine.

As No2 pointed out, if you do the crime be man enough to do the fine. Whether its a single file or a hundred, it's still illegal, bottom line. Maybe they shouldn't have given your internet back, if you're willing to do a single file you're willing to do more (in my opinion). I can say this and be on my soap box because I have nothing pirated, not even software. If I want something I buy it, plain and simple.

In all honestly should they be required to? I dont think they should. Do the police call before they come and bust a drug ring? Nope they sure don't.

If you're going to download illegal stuff don't be stupid and use something that spits your IP address all over the place like BitTorrent. Or if you do use BT anyway don't say I did not warn you. I'd tell you what to use instead but it's against forum rules.

I'm tired of all those RIAA/MPAA/BayTSP assholes harassing people. Because of them I randomly turn on PeerGuardian to block most of their connections when web browsing, I won't ever buy a CD that RIAA had a hand in (I get all my music other ways, but legal ways), and others without actually doing anything illegal. They need to stop whining and beat the pirates by taking advantage of this technology instead of clogging my tubes.

Trying to stop internet piracy is like trying to stop the internet itself, even if you win you're still retarded.
