When I boot it says "Disk read error occured press Alt+Ctrl+Del to restart" I have taken my system apart and reconnected it. Still the harddisk loads sometimes and not always. Right now I am on Ubuntu Live CD. I replaced the HD connector recently but the problem has reappeared. Please give a solution.

IIRC, that's a Windows error, and means it needs to be reinstalled. I just woke up though, and I'm still tired, so take my work with a (large) grain of salt.

I'll agree with MorphiusFaydal, I don't think Linux would ever suggest you use cntl alt delete, it will tell you flat out, reboot. Linux doesn't beat around the bush.

GRUB actually throws up an even uglier error when it can't load the OS. And god forbid you get a kernel panic at boot....
Nothing against Linux, because I use it myself on several systems, but Windows *does* cater to the non-tech-savvy, so it is to be expected that it'll tell you to do something simple, like reboot. And seeing as how Ctrl-Alt-Delete is also a BIOS interrupt, it's the best thing to hit, because it'll reboot the system through hardware, not software.
I would say get that drive into another computer, as a second drive, and use the OS of the other computer to pull whatever data you can't live without (and if it's a virus, which you should assume it is, I'd put it into a Linux system with an updated copy of ClamAV and make damn sure the files you pull are clean), then do a full reformat/reinstall of Windows when you get the hard drive back into its' original system.

A clear indication its a Windows error? Thanks. Now I can carry on with the format and now familiar backup-erase-install-configure method.
