Dual Booting Vista on already XP Installed

Posted 17 September 2008 - 08:33 AM

Ok here is my question i was reading this forum from here http://www.dreaminco...wtopic25064.htm

Is a easy and straight forward steps but what i want is to install the new Vista Ultimate 64bit into a completely different drive not partition the current drive where XP Pro 32bit is installed. I have 2 HDD in my computer, 1 500Gb which it was partition 2 separate ways, 40GB for XP Pro 32bit and the rest for programs.

My 2nd HDD is 640GB and is all formatted and all use for games, music, videos, etc. However i have 300GB free on this HDD that i will like to use that for Vista Ultimate 64bit. The reason i want to do this, is cuz i want to try it Vista, i have used it before but i want to get more familiar with it but at the same time i want to keep my XP Pro cuz i do like XP and i have lots of programs already running on XP Pro, which is the other reason y i want to use all the 300GB of free space on my 2nd HDD for Vista so i can reinstall all the programs i want to try since they wont be able to run from XP to Vista.

i have heard of a Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, and i know very little of it. I have already bought a Partition manager to resize my second HDD and use for Vista, but here is the question, how can i make sure i will have Dual Boot and the ability that if i dont like Vista i can just format that Partition and resize the drive again. At the same token, i want no XP Pro file to be damage or change beside the Boot.ini registry files so i can reapply them the correct way.

Any suggestions?
