does anyone know any good software out there which is good for recording and multi-track mixing, and allows me to add cool effects to my samples ?

uh, well, cool edit is about as low-end as you're gonna find, the product it produces isn't that great, but then again, you get what you pay for. i don't think you're gonna find a cheaper program than CEP that's even worth looking at.

Protools LE. It's free I believe, and if they make it for PC, it's exactly what you want.

yeah, protools is the industry standard, and i do believe they have a free edition, and i'm also pretty sure it'll work on a pc.

won't work on windows 2000 or XP. buggy on windows 98. read the user comments before you download... there seem to be a lot of problems with it.

pro tools free isn't bad, if you don't mind running windows 98. cubase has a free version out too, but it has just about all its stuff disabled. unless you're serious about recording, i wouldn't change my OS for protools.

On a related note, the fine folks who produce Computer Arts (http://www.computerarts.co.uk) also make a magazine called Computer Music which gives reviews on software, software demos, full programs, and tutorials and such. They're both great magazines; head on down to Barnes n' Noble to pick em' up.
Edit: here's a URL for Computer Music http://www.computerm....co.uk/main.asp
