I don't think so, I have 512 and only 160mb is ever used, unless I'm gaming or using photoshop. I think windows XP reccomends 256 but only requires 128.

I was running 256 with XP for about a year.
I never had more that 50 MB physical memory free with just the OS running no programs. If I ran a program it used mostly swap space from the hard drive. Whenever I closed a program, mostly large games, it would have to close out tons of files from the swap file.
Long story short: I have since upgraded to 512 MB and programs now have approximately 350 MB of free physical memory to use and do not utilize so much swap file space any more. MUCH FASTER!!! Now when I close most programs, they close instantly because almost the entire program was loaded into physical memory.
Memory is cheap...upgrade to 512 MB...you will never regret it. I will not run XP on anything less than 512.

98 will definitely not take more than 512 (512 itself usually causes problems).
But 2k does take 1gB+ RAM (Like my current 1.5). I'm not sure how much more it will take (2, 3, 4gB (I think 2k Adv. Server will take upto 4gB)).

No it won't, the new revision with SP1 will give an error at setup, it requires 64megs but that will do little good anyway.

ok, so we now know you cannot run XPSP1 with 32 MBs of RAM... i think when mainstream video cards aren't being sold with much less than 32MBs onboard it might be a good idea to have more than that in your computer to run a modern OS anyway...
moving on... XP should be better managing your page file better than that. i assume you get the balloon that says it is increasing your page file size. what happens after that? you can manually set the page file by right-clicking the My Computer icon -> properties -> Advanced -> Performance Options -> the total paging file size should be set to 1.5 * RAMsize. you can increase this if you like.

it mostly happens when i close games down, you see i partitioned my hard drive into 2 drives C (for general apps and stuff) and D (which i use for games)
i went into the paging file info and there isnt anything set up for my D drive, would that be causing the messages ? and if i allocate the same size for my D drive will it cause any problems ?
